Texas Sheriff’s Deputy Dies After Her Car Falls Into Sinkhole

Dora Linda Nishihara, 69, who worked as a courthouse bailiff, died after her car fell into the 12ft (3.6m) hole filled with water.

Her car was retrieved from the sinkhole by a crane on Monday, a day after it first appeared.

A second vehicle also fell into the hole and two other people were hurt.

The driver of the second vehicle was rescued by a witness, local media reported, but Ms Nishihara’s vehicle had flipped on to its roof and was completely submerged.

Motorists helped people trapped in another car which also fell into the sinkhole, but were unable to reach the deputy’s vehicle. / BBC News

The flow of water in the sinkhole was caused by a ruptured sewer line, local media reported.

Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said her department was “heartbroken” and was assisting the family.

Cadaver dogs signaled Friday morning that there were possible human remains on the property where Kala Brown, 30, was found in a storage container, according to Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the body was found Friday afternoon. He has not identified the victim.

Investigators believe that there may be more bodies buried on his property.

Anderson police tracked Brown’s phone to Kohlhepp’s property. The last activity from her cellphone came on Aug. 31, Barnett said. He said the last contact Brown had on social media was with Kohlhepp.

Kohlhepp identifies himself as a realtor for TK & A Real Estate (Todd Kohlhepp & Associates LLC). According to records, He had been convicted in the past for kidnapping at gunpoint and raping a girl with whom he was friends. Kohlhepp threatened to kill the victim’s 3- and 6-year-old siblings if she told anyone about the rape. He told investigators that he raped the girl because he was angry at his father.

Investigators believe that Kohlhepp and Brown were acquainted, and Brown was hired by Kohlhepp to clean and tidy some of the houses he had for sale. It was during the time when Brown and her boyfriend went to clean his barn when the abduction took place.

After being rescued, Brown told investigators that she saw Kohlhepp shoot her boyfriend, and that there might be more bodies buried on his property.

Transgender Girl Wins Right To Wear Female Clothes To School.

A Transgender pupil wins the right to wear female clothes to school, after hiring a solicitor to challenge teachers who sent her home for turning up in a skirt.

Lily’s Uniform / Dailymail

Kent, UK — A transgender pupil from Chatham was left devastated when school teachers threatened to suspend her from St Simon Stock Catholic School in Maidstone for wearing the ‘wrong uniform.’

Lily, who is just one of the 1,000 pupils at her school, hired a solicitor to fight for her right to study without being discriminated against because of her gender identity.

Her solicitor sent the school details of the 2010 Equality Act, which states that a person ‘must not be discriminated against because of their gender reassignment as a transsexual’.

After a lengthy battle with her school, Lily  has now been told she can wear a school uniform for girls as well as using the girls’ toilets and changing rooms. She has also been sent a letter of apology.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Lily said: ‘I decided to come in dressed in the girls’ dress code, which basically meant I was wearing a top instead of a shirt. It made me feel so happy, until I was sent home.’

Talking about the school’s reversal of their policy, she said: ‘I am very happy about the changes but I felt it was something I shouldn’t have had to fight so hard for, if at all.

A spokesman for the school said that staff are now receiving training relating to the issue of transgender students and gender identity.

In a statement, they said: ‘We value highly the views of all our students, and take all points of view into account as we develop.’

Lilly is happy with the ruling but she says shouldn’t have had to fight so hard for her right to study as transgender, if at all.

‘[Gender Identity] is an important issue for us, as for schools up and down the country.”

‘As an inclusive, Catholic academy, we are confident that the attention we have given to transgender [issues / gender identity issues], including carefully listening to students, has been invaluable in us going even further to make sure all students are happy and comfortable, so that they can be as successful as possible.’

LGBTI-Friendly country ranking / ILGA Europe

In the United Kingdom, under the Equality Act (2010) any transgender person can study, change their name and use the  bathroom of their choice. Despite being protected under law, many LGBT students believe that more can be done in terms of raising awareness and protecting us from discrimination in schools and workplaces.

While Scotland remains best country in the world for LGBTI equality, achieving 90.4% in the ILGA index, the UK as a whole has fallen behind Malta and Belgium.

Simply thank you for loving us, for not giving up on us. For inspiring others.

Laverne Cox said once that loving a transgender woman was a rebellious act.

As a transgender woman myself, it’s heartwarming to see your rebelliousness, your courage; your selfless and unconditional love.

I know that it has not been easy for you. I know that a lot of communities turn you away; I have confronted those transgender people myself. Those transgender people who fear you for being comfortable with your own sex and gender you were born with. Those who think there is nothing to gain in extending themselves to another person outside of their experiences. Those who dare call you scum without knowing anything about you, your mission or your selfless love for your trans partner, or the love you have for your transgender child.

I know it has not been easy for you to let our old selves go, and I know that it’s not easy for a straight woman to fall in love with another woman’s soul.

Yet, here you are. Loving, listening, supporting, Feeling proud.

Thank you for inspiring others, for doing more when everyone else is just talking. Thank you for the things that you taught me, the tips that you’ve given me, and for holding me in your loving arms every time you’ve heard me weeping unconsolably.

Thank you for comforting us, for confronting the bullies and the haters, those who want to inspect our chromosomes before letting us into a public bathroom. Those who think that our future is theirs to choose.

I did not choose to be trans, but you did have the choice. You had the opportunity to ignore me and walk out on me, and you didn’t.

Iranian Women Defy Government’s New Legislation that Bans Them From Cycling In Public

Tehran, Iran — A new discriminatory lesgislation prohibits women from cycling in public, because, according to sources, it distracts men and it gives them immoral thoughts.

Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini issued a fatwa prohibiting women from cycling in public.

“Riding a bicycle often attracts the attention of men and exposes the society to corruption, and thus contravenes women’s chastity, and it must be abandoned,” he said.

Without a defined penalty in Iran’s legal code, officers have previously used dress laws and other alleged offences including being in the company of unrelated men to harass female cyclists.

It is illegal for women to go out in public without wearing headscarf or “modest” clothing in the country, where thousands of undercover agents and morality police patrol the streets to check for violations.

In July, a group of women in the country’s north were stopped by law enforcement while riding bicycles and required to sign a written pledge to ensure that they will not do it again, some sources report.

Since then, Journalist Masih Alinejad, who lives in the United States, has urged Iranian women, through her facebook page, to post the images of themselves with the hashtag #IranianWomenLoveCycling in defiance to the discriminatory fatwa.

British Mum Beaten and her Flat Smashed by Attacker.

Wales, United Kingdom — A woman, whose identity will remain anonymous, has been victim of domestic violence.

The attacker, Owen Hunt, of Palace Avenue, Rhyl, has been arrested and pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily all harm to the victim, aged 17, and damaging a TV on Friday night. North Wales Pioneer reports.

The victim’s Facebook post went viral in a few hours.

On Friday, the victim posted a message on Facebook, which viralized over night across the UK. Thousands of people wrote on her wall offering support and words of encouragement to the victim during this difficult time.

Prosecutor James Neary said that the victim and the attacker had known each other for three years and were good friends.

Last week, however, when the victim invited Hunt to stay at her flat, his behaviour had changed, which he blamed on not taking his medication for his ADHD.

According to the Prosecutor’s account, the girl was attacked while in bed after she said she wouldn’t be Hunt’s girlfriend.
He restrained and attacked the victim multiple times while she was unable to defend herself.

The prosecutor also said that Hunt had also smashed up the living room. He allegedly struck her in the face and hurled a baby chair, hitting her on her head.

The prosecutor confirmed that the victim had a chipped tooth and bruised eye following a “very brutal and sustained assault.”

“He poses a substantial risk of harm to the victim,” declared Mr Neary.

Craig Hutchinson, defendant, said that his client had not taken his medication and this was, in his own words, “very strange behaviour.”

An application for bail was unsuccessful and the court ruled that Hut must not contact his victim.

You Are More Attractive Than You Think, Study Confirms.

There is nothing more beautiful than a confident woman.

Research shows that people perceive you at least 20 per cent more attractive than you think you are. That’s because, when you look in the mirror, you’re simply judging yourself on looks, but there’s more than looks alone that makes one attractive.

A confident, happy, spontaneous and intelligent woman will be perceived as much more attractive than she thinks she is.

In their book, The Complete Formula For Looking And Feeling Beautiful, Doctor Eva Ritvo and Dr Debra Luftman share some of the secrets that we are all looking after: How can we look and feel more beautiful.

I always believed that true beauty comes from within, and in my quest for answers, I stumbled upon this blog post by Dr. Eva Ritvo, in which she explains this interesting concept she calls: The Beauty-Brain Loop.

“The women you know who are genuinely magnetic, who draw every eye when they enter a room–they aren’t just about good looks. They’re confident, passionate, fulfilled and quick-witted. They’re beautiful from all angles. That’s the kind of complete beauty that optimizing the Beauty-Brain Loop can help any woman achieve.” She says.

The Loop is a holistic system with four parts:

1. Inner Beauty: Your self-esteem, attitude, sense of purpose, love for others and compassion.

2. Health: Fitness, diet, weight control, medical checkups, habits.

3. Outer Beauty: Your skin and skincare, hair, nails, cosmetics use, wardrobe and anything else that determines your external “packaging.”

4. Environment: How people respond to you socially, how you create and see beauty around you and enrich your relationships.

“When you enhance any one stage of the Beauty-Brain Loop, you’ll see positive changes in all the others. That’s how the system works. Even if the improvements are small and incremental, you’re going to feel more beautiful, and when you feel more beautiful, you ARE more beautiful. That’s the most important lesson of all.” She adds.

Men Are Scared Of Intelligent Women, Study Finds

Who knew masculinity could be so fragile?

Follow Ellie on Twitter / @elliehopeauthor

Studies by the University of Buffalo, California Lutheran University and the University of Texas, showed that men felt diminished feelings of masculinity  and decreased attraction towards women who outperformed them.

For the study, 105 men were first read a hypothetical scenario involving a woman who either outperformed or underperformed them in a Maths or English course and then made to imagine them as a romantic partner.

Women who outscored them were marked as most desirable partners, stating that men formed favourable impressions and showed greater interest in women who displayed more intelligence than themselves.

However, when men were asked if they would date said women in real life, the men backtracked. They distanced from them, and the tendency was to mark them as less attractive, as well as showing less desire to contact them or invite them out on a date.
